Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Cuterdio app (iPhone, iPad, Mac and CarPlay) and to the website cuterdio.com.

In short: Cuterdio needs no account, shows no ads and contains no tracking or analytics tools. I do not collect any personal data about you. Your favorites and settings stay on your device and in your own iCloud account.

The App

Data on your device

Favorites, favorite groups, your own stations, favorite songs, settings (including those of the equalizer), the timeline of recently played tracks as well as alarm and sleep timer are stored locally on your device only. The credentials for Last.fm and ListenBrainz are kept in your device's keychain. I have no access to any of this.

iCloud

Your favorites and favorite songs are synced between your devices via iCloud. The data is stored in your iCloud account at Apple; I have no access to it. You can turn off syncing in your device's iCloud settings. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Connections to internet services

To play radio and show information about the songs, the app connects directly to the following services. For technical reasons, your IP address is transmitted, together with the content named in each case. Cuterdio does not send any identifier that could be used to recognize you.

  • Radio stations: When playing, the app connects to the stream server of the station. Station icons are loaded from the stations' websites.
  • Radio Browser (radio-browser.info): The station directory. Search terms, country and genre are transmitted. When you play a station, an anonymous click is counted there, which determines the station's popularity.
  • Apple iTunes Search API: Album covers and album information. Artist and song title are transmitted.
  • Genius (genius.com): Lyrics and release date. Artist and song title are transmitted.
  • Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation): The Wikipedia article about the artist. The artist name is transmitted.
  • laut.fm: Track information when you listen to a laut.fm station.
  • cuterdio.com: The FAQ, contact, about Cuterdio, changelog and privacy pages in the app.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: without these connections, the app cannot provide its features.

Favorite songs in Apple Music

If you choose and allow it in the app, Cuterdio also marks your favorite songs in your Apple Music library. To do so, the app connects to Apple Music via Apple MusicKit and transmits the respective song. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time in the app or in your device's settings. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Scrobbler for Last.fm and ListenBrainz

If you sign in to Last.fm or ListenBrainz in the app, Cuterdio transmits the songs you listen to (artist, title, album and time) together with your credentials to the respective service. Without signing in, nothing is transmitted. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can sign out in the app at any time. The privacy policies of Last.fm and ListenBrainz apply.

Your own stations

When you add your own station, it is also submitted to the public Radio Browser directory so that others can find it too. The station's name, stream URL, homepage and icon are transmitted. So please don't add any private or protected streams.

Identifying songs with Shazam

When you identify a song with Shazam, the app creates an audio signature from the audio of the station that is playing and sends it to Apple's Shazam service. The microphone is not used. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Station world map and location

The map is provided by Apple Maps. To load the stations in the visible map area, the app determines the country of that area via Apple.

The app only asks for your location when you tap the location button on the map and allow it. It is only used to center the map on you and is not sent to me. You can revoke the permission at any time in your device's settings.

Purchases

Cuterdio Pro and tips are handled through Apple's in-app purchase. Apple processes the payment; I receive no payment details and no personal data about you.

Links to Apple Music, Spotify and Wikipedia

Links to Apple Music contain an affiliate token of the Apple affiliate program. This tells Apple that you came via Cuterdio. If you then buy something, I may receive a small commission, but no data about you. Links to Spotify and Wikipedia open the respective app or website, where their privacy policies apply.

Crash reports

If you have allowed sharing analytics data with app developers in your device's settings, Apple provides me with anonymized crash reports. They help me fix bugs and do not allow any conclusions about you.

The Website

Hosting

The website cuterdio.com is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. When you visit it, the server stores access data such as IP address, date and time, the page requested and browser for technical reasons. This data is only used to operate the website securely and is deleted regularly. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Cookies

The website does not use cookies.

Statistics with Matomo

For anonymous visitor statistics of the website, I use Matomo on my own server (analytics.suplanus.de, also at Hetzner), without cookies. The data is not shared with third parties. You can opt out of tracking here. The app does not use Matomo.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing of your data, to data portability and to object to processing. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Since I do not store any personal data about you myself, this usually concerns the services named above.

Changes

I update this privacy policy when the app or the website changes. The version published here applies.
